Meta will make AI bots more prominent in WhatsApp, a feature nobody really requested from the otherwise great chat app.

Meta’s popular messaging app WhatsApp is testing a new design that gives prominent space to a suite of AI chatbots. The design, currently only accessible through the app’s Android beta, adds a dedicated tab for AIs on the app’s homescreen.

WhatsApp plans to introduce AI bots for user conversations, offering a variety of personalities to chat with. These bots could include anime characters, advice specialists, and more, adding an entertaining and educational aspect.

The companies are among the latest major corporations to alter their diversity programmes since Trump's re-election.

Some of America's biggest businesses have been scaling back their diversity initiatives, years after pushing for more inclusive policies in the wake of protests against the police killings of George Floyd and other Black Americans in 2020.

The move to cut DEI comes just days after Meta announced a move to move to community-based content moderation strategy on its platforms.
