Hey Sandra, the address I put on the GPS was 7321 North Carolina 126, Nebo, NC 28761. Canoes and kayaks are available for rental near the concession stand in the Paddy's Creek area. Canoes accommodate 2-3 people and kayaks accommodate 1. I cannot speak to pricing for 6 ppl. But the link to the camp site map is on their website. I can't add HTML or website here because they won't allow it. Google Lake James State Park canoeing. It'll take you there Give them a call and ask for the exact pricing, 828-584-7728. I just don't want to quote you wrong. Hope this helps.

You can not kayak from Lake James to Judges, which is on the Catawba River below the lake. There is a hydroelectric dam between the lake and the river below. If you want to go to Judges by kayak, you can put in at the Watermill access in Glen Alpine. There are more details at the Appalachian Fly Guides website and looking up Catawba River information. I couldn't include the website name in this answer because it wouldn't send with html code. This source does report that there is a low water dam on this section and you will need to portage your watercraft around the dam. They warn about not attempting to float over the dam on high water flow because of a nasty hydraulic that can swamp a watercraft, and describes it as a half day float. It would be faster in a kayak as you're paddling and not floating. A number of people float on the Catawba in inner tubes.

This depends on which of the camping area you are talking about: hike-in, boat-in, or drive-in. (I don't know if they all have a lot #18.)
